artificial light (the penumbra of grief)

have I taken
the sunshine
for granted
the golden light
of my beloved?

bathed and warmed
caressed and cared
lavished and loved
by rays of life
abundantly
blessing
and making
sense of every
hour and day

the light has gone
the sun no longer shines
and I live only in
artificial light
seeing but not
recognising the
immediate gift
of time as present
and
infinity

yet it is still there
but the rays can
no longer fall on me
until I leave this world

what a beckoning
what a dawn
