grate loss
together we laid a
fire and how it
blazed for what
seemed a lifetime
of years giving
light and warmth
consummate
combustion
licking and
leaping with life
but without you
the fuel has failed
the oxygen sucked
out of the magical
flames leaving
only ashes
cold and grey
but I am still
grateful
