A year's mind sonnet
This death I face of which I’m most afeared
Has power and transformation unalloyed.
The daily round is strange and dark, oft teared,
As remnant life unfolds now unenjoyed.
When once our time was shared, our lives conjoined,
And brought to life through love – this flesh and blood
On earth no longer meets – our days purloined.
My compass, chart, seem lost in deathly flood.
And yet this day you died is shared with Mark,
His wingèd lion soaring to the skies,
To see the light that penetrates the dark
That all may see a hope with no disguise.
The truth sets free a limitless domain –
For love is all and always will remain.
